Vijay in a Rajini film

Vijay in a Rajini film

“Ella Pugazhum Oruvan Oruvanukke… Nee Nadhi Pole Odi Kondu Iru…” was the opening line of a hit number from a super hit of Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay. And Vijay is serious about nothing but his work. He is returning with a bang by releasing three films in a year.
The surprise doesn’t end there. While speaking at a function in Trichy to release the audio the film 'Veluthu Kattu' director and father of Vijay SA Chandrashekar said that he is going to remake some of his old hits with the new generation of stars and technicians.
His first in the series will be the remake of 'Naan Sigappu Manithan' starring Rajinikanth, K. Bhagyaraj and Ambika. The film was super hit in the 80s. It was vendetta tale in which the hero a self-styled vigilante and goes after the bad guys after he loses his sister and mother to the villains.
And you guessed it right. SAC is planning to cast Vijay in the role of Rajini.

‘Endhiran’ given to ARR for music

Sonam Kapoor says No to Mani Ratnam!

Is it true?? But that’s what our birdies are chirping about excitedly! They have heard that this young B-town chori, who is just two films old, had the audacity to turn down a Mani Ratnam’s offer.
The story goes like… Mani Ratnam is to bring up a project titled ‘Paki’, which will be a directorial debut of his former assistant Shiva. The script is written by Mani himself, while Vivek Oberoi has been signed on for the lead. And it was for this film Mani had approached Sonam. Now the ‘thumbs down’ sign given by the actress seem to have taken all by surprise, especially when the man behind the venture is such a high-profile director who has given some of the remarkable films to Hindi and south industry.
Hmmmm wonder what Sonam has in her mind….

Housefull - Succeeds in entertaining

Housefull - Succeeds in entertaining

After a long painful drought (thanks to the exam season and IPL matches) of plain boring to irritating films arrives Sajid Khan’s Housefull. While in totality it does fall short of being the big great summer entertainer that it is been claiming to be, it however manages to bring many laughs for you. However, eventually it settles down in familiar territory.
Housefull narrates the tale of Aarush (Akshay), a perpetually unlucky bloke and a loser in life who moves into the house of his best buddy cum another loser, Bob (Ritesh) and his wife Hetal (Lara). But things continue to go wrong for Aarush. Convinced that true love can fade away his bad luck jinx, a desperate Aarush enters into many complicated situations while seeking it. Thus enter Sandy (Deepika) and Devika (Jiah) in his life. Things complicate further with the arrival of Sandy’s angry brother Major Krishna Rao (Arjun Rampal) and Hetal’s estranged dad Batuk Patel (Boman Irani). How Aarush and Bob in an attempt to hoodwink Krishna Rao and Batuk go on creating more confusion leading to a mirthful chaos forms the rest of the plot.
Much was expected from Sajid Khan who has been literally claiming from rooftops for weeks now that he has made the year’s biggest blockbuster. Though he has not entirely let us down, you do wish he could have opted for a more innovative plot. The second half ends up being more of an Anees Bazmee film what with characters trying to hide identities and going on a lying spree. Sajid Khan also seems to have taken the slap stick humour bit quiet seriously what with so many slaps happening within the film. A ‘slapathon’ sequence reminding of his Heyy Babyy takes place too. The film loses its tempo with the introduction of Jiah’s character. But thankfully gets it back right in the second half where Akshay and Ritesh’s histrionics to hide the truth from Arjun Rampal and Boman Irani. To give Sajid due credit, he has created many rip roaringly funny situations that are further elevated by his actors. Amongst the most hilarious sequences are most of the scenes featuring Akshay and Ritesh together. They share terrific chemistry. The climax set in the Queen of England’s Buckingham Palace is a laugh riot (literally). The film is high on glamour quotient what with three attractive bodied heroines (Deepika, Lara and Jiah) parading in skimpy outfits most of the time.
Akshay Kumar is back in terrific form, evoking huge laughter with his poker faced humour. Ritesh Deshmukh is another great comic talent who often gets his timing right. Arjun Rampal suits the part and looks dapper. While Deepika looks sizzling hot, Lara manages to score over her in the comedy department. Jiah tries hard and ends up being just about passable. Boman Irani goes over the top as usual. Making a come back on screen after a long gap, Randhir Kapoor playing Jiah’s Sindhi dad doesn’t get much scope. Chunky Pandey is plain irritating playing Akhiri Pasta an Italian hotelier. His fake Italiano accent grates on your nerves.
Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s music perfectly syncs in with the mood of the film. Mika sung foot tapping number Apni To Jaise Taise featuring Jacqueline Fernandez is a sure shot chartbuster and is fun to watch on screen. The editing could have been tighter especially in the first half. Vikas Sivaraman’s camera work is good especially while capturing the Italy locales.
Finally, what makes Housefull a watchable film is the fact that it aims to entertain and succeeds in doing so irrespective of its negative points. Go watch Housefull if you seek pure no hassles entertainment.

Why is Hrithik angry?

Why is Hrithik angry?

The Roshan kid is angry. The actor whose most awaited flick is hitting the screens today and is carrying tremendous enthusiasm is angry with the media. Yesterday, when a reporter asked him why the premiere of ‘Kites’ was held in US and not in India, the actor strangely replied that, “Why media writes false reports, they wrote about my sister moving out, my affair with Barbara and all.” He continued by saying that “I get busy with my film and sometimes don’t answer calls, it might have annoyed them but that doesn’t mean they can print anything that forces me to reply or answer.”
Very strange, Hrithik was answering to a question which was never asked. And in any ways Hrithik involvement can never be more than Aamir and ‘Kites’ is coming after two years so he had ample time.
May be the anxiety on the eve of his most waited release may have taken toll of the actor.
No Issues Hrithik. Learn to listen and listen to learn…….anyways we wish you all the best for your ‘Kites’.

Hey folks! This girl seriously follows her beau. Hmmmm, the London beauty in her Bollywood duty – the tall and the sexy Katrina Kaif recently followed what Salman ordered…. We mean the girl who is donning a new avatar as a politician in Praksah Jha’s ‘Raajneeti’ was supposed to fly to Bangalore for a promotional event of her upcoming political potboiler. To her bad luck and Banglorians’ delight her driver did not show up.
But, Kats is a professional kudi so she recollected what her beau Salman did when he droved an auto rickshaw in Mumbai, the same way Katrina took a public transport to reach her destination. She took her luggage along and hailed a cab to the airport.
The cab driver couldn’t believe his luck as he had a special passenger behind and hurried to the airport making sure that the lady catches her flight in time.

MALLIKA’S DARING PROMOTION!!!

Mallika’s daring promotion

She had been bold and daring enough from her debut film itself. The oomph siren Mallika Sherawat recently showed her daring side on the international shores as well. Mallika promoted her forthcoming film ‘Hisss’ in the company of live snakes at Cannes Film Festival.
She wore them, cuddled them and even kissed them! Miss Sherawat proved that she had been perfect to play the role of snake woman in the film. With some help, the actress carried along a 22-foot python to promote the film at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes, France. While the beauty wore a black-yellow dress, interestingly the python was worn a black bow.

In her Twitter page, Mallika had written, “All the Snakes have just entered the Majestic Hotel in Cannes! Hissstory is being made.” She also revealed that ‘Hisss’ will be released in India on Independence Day.
Besides, the actress is there to promote her other film ‘Love, Barack’, which will be screened at the festival.

MADHAVAN STEPS INTO ‘Faltu’!!!

Madhavan steps into ‘Faltu’

After ‘Teen Patti’ one can see the charming actor R. Madhavan back on screens next in ‘Faltu’. Yeah this is the same Vashu Bhagnani's movie which had been making news for including Akshay Kumar on board. But no baba; Maddy has not replaced Akki. In fact, he is just another character in the film.
‘Faltu’ is actually a re-launch film for the producer's son Jackky, after his debut film ‘Kal Kissne Dekha’ bounced at the box office.
Sources reveal that Madhavan initially was not keen to do the film as it revolves around education system. Reason being that ‘3 Idiots’ had been of similar type and the actor didn’t want to do a repeat. However he agreed to do ‘Faltu’ because of old friendship with Vashu. Madhavan had done earlier ‘Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein’, a Vashu Bhagnani production.
‘Faltu’ will be directed by Remo D'souza and will have last year's Miss India Pooja Chopra as the leading lady. As of now the script is being finalised and the shooting will start in few weeks, according to Vasu.

‘KHANDAHAR’ RESTORED FOR CANNES!!

‘Khandahar’ restored for Cannes

Reliance MediaWorks Ltd., which operates the world’s largest and most advanced restoration facilities, has restored Mrinal Sen’s award-winning film Khandahar, one of Indian cinema’s greats, that premieres in the Cannes Classic 2010 programme on 15th May, 2010.
The original 1984 ‘Khandahar’ which tells the story of a city-based photographer who falls in love with a heartbroken woman living in a ruined village, had suffered from a number of material issues including bad splices, tearing, dirt, scratches, flickers, stabilization, grains, noises, splice bumps, and image warps. Similarly the film’s audio was impaired with various anomalies following years of deterioration.

Before Restoration
As a part of the National Film Archive of India’s initiative for digital restoration and content processing of over 1000 classic films, Reliance MediaWorks undertook a pristine restoration process for ‘Khandahar’, at its India facility, which is one of the world’s largest comprehensive digital restoration and content processing services facilities. Spread over 90,000 sq ft, the facility employs trained digital image processing artists and is built as per Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) standards.
The Reliance MediaWorks team repaired Khandahar’s film reels and carried out a chemically cleaning process using an ultrasonic film cleaning system to remove the physical dirt and residues. The audio and images were processed through a series of automatic restoration modules and manually repaired by skilled restoration artists to clean up the majority of the problems. The film was digitally captured in 2K resolution, without any pre-processing, using a film scanner specially designed for scanning archival films which preserved the resolution and arrangement without clipping or crushing the image of the original film.

After Restoration
‘Khandahar’ now benefits with sharper, consistent visuals and audio. The restored files were color graded under guidance of veteran filmmaker Mr. Govind Nihalani and rendered out in XYZ as per DCI specification, therefore resulting in a richness of colour. The film was encoded into Digital Cinema Package (DCP) in the original aspect ratio of 1.37 along with French subtitles.
“Reliance MediaWorks has a unique blend of best in class restoration tools and proprietary technologies, coupled with organically created talent pool that enables us to offer the optimum combination of scale, skills and solutions for all restoration needs including challenging restoration projects like Khandahar.” Said Hemen Doshi, COO Digital Media Imaging (Media outsourcing arm of Reliance MediaWorks)
Anil Arjun, CEO Reliance MediaWorks said: “In a relatively short time frame, Reliance MediaWorks has established an integrated international presence in the film restoration service space and offers high end restoration and image enhancement services across India, US, UK and Japan. Our processes are internationally bespoke and ground-breaking as we continue to develop our technology. We are honoured to have worked on restoring Khandahar and excited that the Cannes International Film Festival has recognized Khandahar in its Cannes Classics 2010 section.”

ACTOR NEWS!!!

The hero who refused to kiss Thamanna

Telugu films are pouring on Thamanna who had almost acted in Tamil with all the leading actors. Now she is pairing with Allu Arjuna in a Telugu film titled Badrinath. Vinayak is directing this film.

The director wanted to shoot a lip to lip kissing scene between Allu Arjun and Thamanna. Now kissing scenes have become inevitable in Telugu films. All the Telugu films have kissing scenes. Thamanna got ready for this scene but Allu Arjun refused to kiss.
In spite of director requesting him many times, Allu refused to act in the kissing scene. When enquired about this, the crew said that Allu films which had kissing scenes have flopped and hence he is sentimentally refusing to do these kinds of scenes.

PADMAPRIYA SAYS!!!

Padmapriya says there is no connection between marriage and acting

Padmapriya while speaking to the media said,” Many are asking me about me acting in controversial roles I am doing in Malayalam films. Some directors who have faith in me give some complicated roles. As far as possible I act to their satisfaction.

When my character wins, I am compared with some people. I don’t go after the controversial roles. At the same time I don’t refuse such roles that come my way. Now I am also donning the role of a prostitute in a Malayalam film. This film is based on the life of the olden day prostitute girl. With regard to Hindi films, I have acted in the film Striker.
This film has given me popularity and has made profit for the producer. This film is not a commercial film like Ghajini. I also never wanted to go to Bollywood with such kind of film. My next Hindi film will be a commercial film. Talks are going on regard with this.
About my marriage, it has been only three years since I have come to cinema. I will marry at the appropriate time. I will continue to act even after marriage. Marriage should not be a bar for my acting. I will marry the person who permits me to act even after marriage. Marriage is life and acting is profession. I am very clear in this policy.”

POOJA !!!!

Now I have listened to few stories. I liked one of the story very much. I will be doing the female lead role in this film. The shooting of this film is to commence in the first week of next month. My parents are in search of an alliance for me.
I have not taken this seriously. My first priority is cinema. My aim is to achieve something in cinema. I will work hard to achieve this goal.”

“Am I giving importance to Telugu” asks Kajal Agarwal

Kajal Agarwal is currently acting in the Tamil film Naan Mahan Alla. She said,” I am donning the role of Priya, college student in the film Naan Mahan Alla. This is a romantic action film.

The love track with Karthi will fascinate the audience. Since this film is directed by Susindran who directed Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, there are lots of expectations. I am also currently acting in three Telugu films.

After Magadheera,, I am once again pairing with Ram Saran Teja. Dharani is directing this film. The shooting of this film will commence next month. Since I was continuously signed for Telugu films, I was not able to accept Tamil films. Because of this many are telling that I am giving importance to Telugu films. There is no truth in this. AKSHAY-AISHWARYA

Akshay-Aishwarya to do a Rishi-Dimple, Amitabh-Jaya in Action Replayy

Akshay and Aishwarya are thrilled. They'll get to enact songs featuring their mother-in-law Dimple and father-in-law Amitabh respectively. But composer Pritam Chakraborty is in a bit of a jam. Vipul Shah has decided at the last minute to re-record an entire complicated track for Action Replayy for a retro-song to be filmed on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshay Kumar.

And this is no ordinary request. The one all-comprehensive track will have to represent screen jodis as diverse as Raj Kapoor-Nargis, Rajesh Khanna-Mumtaz, Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya, Dharmendra-Hema Malini and Rishi Kapoor-Dimple Kapadia.

The long-planned retro-song, representing various eras of evergreen screen-jodis, has now undergone a massive change. Every section of the song will now have differently mooded lyrics and tunes to go with the different looks that Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will don to represent screen pairs over the decades.

Pritam had recorded a straightforward love song for the situation. That just won't do. The director has a far more ambitious tune-plan which Pritam has not quite understood as yet.

Vipul, who has just got Akshay and Aishwarya's dates in July to shoot the song in Manali, has asked his exceedingly busy composer Pritam to scrap the song he had recorded and create an entirely new composition that would aurally represent Akshay and Aishwarya's tribute to screen pairs over the years.

Explains Vipul, "I feel it isn't enough to simply dress up Akshay and Aishwarya to represent the various screen pairs. Every section of the music, vocals and lyrics will represent the pair that we show Akshay and Aishwarya playing. For example, if the mukhda is dedicated to Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz, I want the R.D. Burman feel of 'Jai Jai Shiv Shankar' in Aap Ki Kasam. On the other hand, if I want Akshay and Aishwarya to do a Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bachchan, I'd want Pritam to come with a suitable mood and tune, like R D. Burman's 'Bahon Mein Chale Aao' in Anamika. If I show Akshay-Ash doing Raj-Nargis, I want a Shankar-Jaikishan piece. If I show Akshay-Ash doing Dharmendra and Hema Malini, I want a Laxmikant-Pyarelal section in the composition. But if I want Akshay-Ash doing Shammi Kapoor-Sharmila Tagore, then I want O.P. Nayyar to come into play."

Just how Pritam would get all these diverse and seemingly-incompatible compositional style into one song is a mystery to the composer.

But Vipul is confident. "Pritam is smart and he is talented. He will do it. Our film music is so rich. Not only are there composers as far ranging as Madan Mohan and Shankar-Jaikishan, even the composer you hear in one kind of cinema is different from what he does in another kind of cinema. How can we compare what R.D. Burmam composed for Rajesh-Sharmila with what he composed for Rajesh-Mumtaz? I want all of this diversity to be part of that one song."

Pritam, who has already composed two full-on retro numbers for Action Replayy -- a satire on marriage and an Elvis Presley styled rock 'n' roll track -- has a month to rise to the occasion. The most ambitious retro song in the history of Indian cinema will be shot on July 12, 13, 14 and 15 in Manali.

KOLLYWOOD FILM!!!

Tamil cinema (also referred to as the cinema of Tamil Nadu, the Tamil film industry, or Chennai film industry) is the Chennai–based Tamil language filmmaking industry of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is based in the Kodambakkam district of Chennai, where several Tamil language feature films are produced, which has led to a colloquial reference to the district and industry as Kollywood (Tamil: கோலிவுட் kōlivūṭ), a portmanteau of the words Kodambakkam and Hollywood.
Silent movies were produced in Chennai since 1916 and the era of talkies dawned in 1931 with the film Kalidas. By the end of the 1930s, the State of Madras legislature passed the Entertainment Tax Act 1939. Tamil Nadu cinema has had a profound effect on the film making industries of India, with Chennai becoming a hub for the filmmaking industries of other languages, including Telugu cinema, Malayalam cinema, Kannada cinema, Hindi cinema, Sinhalese cinema and Sri Lankan Tamil cinema in the 1900s. Tamil–language films are further made in other countries.
